The Ramones’ 50th anniversary brought several generations of punk rock together in Los Angeles for a special tribute on August 30. At the official celebration at Hollywood Forever Cemetery, musicians gathered to honor the band’s self-titled 1976 debut album and its lasting influence on punk music.
During the event, Green Day’s Billie Joe Armstrong, Blink-182 drummer Travis Barker, Rancid’s Tim Armstrong, and former Ramones bassist C.J. Ramone joined forces as a temporary group called The Cretin Family. Their performance centered on songs and music connected to The Ramones’ legacy.
Billy Idol also made a surprise appearance with the group. He performed Ramones favorites Beat on the Brat and Blitzkrieg Bop, along with Ready Steady Go, a song from his Generation X years.
