Dick Parry, the saxophonist whose playing became part of several defining Pink Floyd recordings, has died at 83.
David Gilmour confirmed Parry’s death in a public tribute, remembering him as a longtime friend and musical partner. The two had known each other since their teenage years and played together in bands before Parry became connected to Pink Floyd’s studio and live work.
Parry’s saxophone is heard on some of the band’s best-known songs, including Money, Us and Them, Shine On You Crazy Diamond, and Wish You Were Here. His tone added a warm, expressive layer to Pink Floyd’s sound during a period when the group was creating some of its most widely recognized music.
