Dexter and the Moonrocks are building on a major breakthrough as they prepare to release their debut full-length album, Friends That I Don’t Like, on October 2.
The Texas band said during a recent interview that the success of Freakin’ Out arrived after years of touring, releasing music and developing a sound that felt distinctly their own. The single spent five weeks at No. 1 on Alternative Airplay and became the group’s first Hot 100 entry, reaching No. 33.
That momentum comes after the band initially leaned toward Texas country influences before heavier rock became the stronger part of its identity. The members still connect their music to their home state, particularly through personal songwriting and a strong sense of place.
