Green Day gave San Diego Comic-Con attendees an unexpected performance by turning an ice cream truck into a temporary concert stage near Petco Park.
During the unannounced promotional appearance on July 24, frontman Billie Joe Armstrong climbed onto the roof of the truck and performed Basket Case for the crowd gathered in Gallagher Square. Videos from the event showed fans surrounding the vehicle as Armstrong played the band’s 1994 hit.
The truck was decorated to promote Nimrods, an upcoming coming-of-age comedy inspired by Green Day’s early touring years. Cast members Mason Thames and Jenna Fischer were also present for the event.
