Bowen Yang departed Saturday Night Live during the show’s Christmas episode hosted by Ariana Grande. Yang joined SNL’s writing staff in 2018 and became a cast member in season 45, making history as the first Chinese American cast member. He earned four Emmy nominations for Best Supporting Actor in a Comedy Series, becoming the first featured player nominated for acting. During his farewell sketch as an airport employee, Yang became emotional and said, “I just feel so lucky that I ever got to work here.” Musical guest Cher appeared to comfort him, telling Yang, “Well, everyone thought you were a little bit too gay.
