Disney has partnered with OpenAI in a groundbreaking three-year licensing agreement, becoming the first major content company to license intellectual property to an AI platform. The deal allows OpenAI’s Sora video generator to create short social videos featuring over 200 Disney, Marvel, Pixar and Star Wars characters, including Mickey Mouse, Iron Man, and Darth Vader. Disney will invest $1 billion in OpenAI and receive warrants for additional equity purchases. “Technological innovation has continually shaped the evolution of entertainment, bringing with it new ways to create and share great stories with the world,” Disney CEO Bob Iger said. The agreement excludes talent likenesses and voices, and prohibits OpenAI from using Disney content to train AI models. Sora-generated Disney content launches in early 2026, with curated selections available on Disney+. (Story URL)
