In Bon Iver’s new “Day One” music video, a humorous audition takes place to find a replacement for the band’s mastermind and founder, Justin Vernon. “In 2025, Bon Iver announced his retirement, and the search began for his replacement,” reads a message at the start of the music video. “These are the audition tapes.” Various fans and celebrities are shown trying out, including actor Jacob Elordi sporting a fake beard, St. Vincent’s Annie Clark, actress Cristin Milioti, and Dijon, with the hopefuls all lip-syncing along to the song while competing for the role. The video, directed by Jos Diaz Contreras, mixes quirky characters and heartfelt performances, culminating with Vernon himself returning to reclaim his spot. “Day One” is a track from Bon Iver’s April release, Sable, Fable, which features the previously released singles “Everything Is Peaceful Love” and “If Only I Could Wait” featuring Danielle Haim.
