Green Day is expressing excitement about their upcoming comedy film, New Years Rev, which is set to premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival on September 12. Directed and written by Lee Kirk, the film follows three friends who embark on a road trip to open for Green Day at a New Year’s Eve concert, only to discover the gig is a prank. “It’s packed with all of your favorite Green Day songs, loaded with mischief, and lots of familiar faces,” Green Day wrote on Instagram. “This film is our love letter to all of our favorite road trip movies, ‘90s nostalgia, and chasing it all no matter how ridiculous it gets.” New Years Rev stars Mason Thames, Kylr Coffman, and Ryan Foust, with guest appearances from McKenna Grace, Fred Armisen, and Jenna Fischer. Green Day produced the film, with the band claiming that the TIFF premiere is “just the beginning” of the festivities surrounding the project. (Rolling Stone)
