On Saturday night (August 9), My Chemical Romance delivered a triumphat homecoming performance at MetLife Stadium in New Jersey during their Long Live The Black Parade Tour. The band are all Jersey natives – Gerard and Mikey Way, along with Frank Iero, were raised in Belleville, while Ray Toro is from Kearny – and early in the show, they received the key to the city from Belleville Mayor Michael Melham. During the presentation, the band stayed fully in character within the dystopian world of Draag, even presenting the mayor with symbolic gifts including a bouquet of wheat and a fish wrapped in paper. Their set featured a full run through of The Black Parade, followed by deep cuts from MCR’s catalog, before the night closed with a spirited cover of Bon Jovi’s “Livin’ On A Prayer,” which Gerard called the “New Jersey state anthem” as he introduced the classic song. My Chemical Romance are next set to play Philadelphia on Friday (August 15). (Rolling Stone)
