Tom Cruise, choreographer Debbie Allen, and production designer Wynn Thomas will receive honorary Oscars at the Academy’s annual Governors Awards. Dolly Parton will receive the Jean Hersholt Humanitarian Award for her longstanding charitable work. Cruise has earned four previous Oscar nominations, but has yet to win a competitive award. Academy President Janet Yang praised Cruise’s “incredible commitment” to filmmaking and the theatrical experience. Allen, a multi-hyphenate entertainer, has choreographed several Oscars ceremonies, some of which were Emmy-nominated. Thomas, known for his collaborations with director Spike Lee, has seen his production designs feature in best picture nominees. Parton is being honored for her humanitarian efforts, including organizations like the Dollywood Foundation. The honorary Oscars will be presented at a private ceremony November 16th. (AP)
