Cynthia Erivo is set to host the 78th Tony Awards, taking over from Ariana DeBose. A former Tony winner herself, Erivo earned acclaim for her role in the Broadway revival of The Color Purple and is currently an Oscar nominee for her performance in Wicked. “I am so proud and excited to take on this glorious honor,” Erivo said in a statement. “I am looking forward to ushering the theater community at large through a night that celebrates the wonderful performances we have witnessed throughout the year. I hope I can rise to the occasion.” The Tonys will take place live at Radio City Music Hall on June 8th, airing on CBS and streaming on Paramount+. (Variety)
