The iconic 1987 music biopic La Bamba, which portrayed the life of rock & roll pioneer Ritchie Valens, will get a remake, with original writer and director Luis Valdez on board as an executive producer. José Rivera, an Oscar-nominated writer known for The Motorcycle Diaries and On The Road, will pen the script. The original movie featured Lou Diamond Phillips as Valens, following the 17-year-old Mexican-American’s journey from field laborer to rock star, followed by his tragic death in a plane crash alongside Buddy Holly and The Big Bopper. La Bamba was beloved by critics and fans, receiving a Golden Globe nomination and eventually being added to the National Film Registry. (Variety)
