On Sunday (August 18), YG organized a peace walk through his hometown of Compton to encourage a truce between rival gangs Treetop Pirus and Fruit Town Pirus. Members of both gangs joined the rapper in solidarity on the walk through the South Central Los Angeles neighborhoods, hoping that the gesture helps broker a truce between the two fierce rivals. Hundreds of members of the local community also showed their support, alongside hip-hp stars and Compton natives like The Game and Wallie the Sensei, who all took part in the peaceful, unified walk that started at Gonzales Park and continued down historic Rosecrans Avenue. They even stopped for a bite to eat at Tams burgers, the fast food joint made famous in Kendrick Lamar’s “Not Like Us” music video. YG was encouraged by the turnout at his peace walk and hopeful that it will lead to peace and unity going forward. “It’s a good day — it’s a good day in Bompton right now!” YG said of the event.
