Metallica’s blistering second album, Ride The Lightning, celebrated the 40th anniversary of its original release date on July 27, 2024. And that metal milestone has caused Metallica fans to purchase copies of that landmark record in major numbers. According to sales figures from the entertainment industry data company Luminate, purchases of Ride The Lightning increased 160% last week, which drove the metal masterpiece to re-enter the US Billboard charts. Metallica’s sophomore record sold the equivalent of 3,900 units last week, a dramatic increase over the 1,500 units moved the week prior. Ride the Lightning currently sits at number 24 in the overall American sales ranking, a huge improvement over the 100 slot the album reached when it first was released back in 1984. (Louder Sound)
