It looks as though the Doobie Brothers' 50th anniversary tour will most likely celebrate their 51st anniversary. The Doobies — with Michael McDonald — are scheduled to kick off their trek on June 9th at West Palm Beach's Coral Sky Amphitheatre.
Although none of the dates have been postponed yet, we caught up with Micahel McDonald who gave us an update on the band's plans: “It looks like it's gonna be on hold, like everyone else. I can't imagine we'll go out this summer. . . Y'know, there's still a chance hat possibly, late in the fall, we might do some dates. I think at this point, the mindset is to just put the whole thing back into 2021, which is kinda disappointing for all of us. We were all pretty geared up to go do it — but such is everybody's fate these days, y'know? But it was something that we were all looking forward to and kinda disappointed it didn't get to happen this year.”
McDonald just released a pair of covers, which are apropos to the present state of things in the face of the coronavirus — Burt Bacharach & Hal David's “What The World Needs Now” and Marvin Gaye's “What's Going On”: “We always end our evening with one or two of those songs and say something that points to the fact we're a community. And the mindfulness of being a community is, is always going to be important.”
