Selena Gomez Praises Demi Lovato’s ‘Anyone’ Performance During Grammys

Selena Gomez took to her Instagram story to open up about watching Demi Lovato sing “Anyone” for the first time at the Grammys.

“I wish there were words to describe how beautiful, inspirational and DESERVED this moment was. Demi I’m so happy for you. Thank you for your courage and bravery,” Selena wrote.

Demi and Selena have known each other since meeting on the set of Barney and Friends in 2002. The duo both starred on Disney Channel shows but over the past few years, have gone their separate ways.

P!nk and Sam Smith also posted praise for Demi on social media. Lovato’s manager Scooter Braun said simply, “No words. So proud of u.”

Before taking the stage, Demi talked about what the new song means to her. “I almost listen back and hear these lyrics as a cry for help,” Demi said in an interview with New Music Daily With Zane Lowe ahead of her performance. “And you kind of listen back to it and you kind of think, How did nobody listen to this song and think, ‘Let’s help this girl?'”

“I was recording it in a state of mind where I felt I was okay, but clearly I wasn’t,” Demi continued. “I even listen back to it and I’m like, Gosh, I wish I could go back in time and help that version of myself.”

Demi’s emotional delivery of the song earned her a standing ovation. The singer, 27, wrote the ballad just four days before her near-fatal overdose in July 2018. After receiving a standing ovation from the audience, Lovato took to social media to reflect on the moment.

“What an unbelievable night. My first time back on stage in almost 2 years,” she described. “So emotional for me. Thank you all for the love, support and for sharing this moment with me. I love you all.”

Lovato is also set to perform the national anthem before this year's Super Bowl on February 2nd. Shakira and Jennifer Lopez will perform the halftime show.
