Kansas drummer Phil Ehart has announced plans to release a new memoir in April 2026, offering a detailed look at his life on and off the stage. According to a recent announcement, the book traces Ehart’s journey from his early years in music to his decades-long role in Kansas, a band that helped define American progressive rock in the 1970s and beyond.
Here’s the thing. This book is not framed as a greatest-hits victory lap. Ehart has said the memoir focuses on the full picture, including creative tension, personal setbacks, and the realities of staying in a touring band for more than 50 years. The goal, he explained, was honesty rather than legend-building.
Titled I Am Phil, the memoir also explores friendships, band dynamics, and the changes within the music industry that shaped his career. The book is currently available for preorder, with publication set for spring 2026.
