Bob Dylan has accepted an honorary Doctor of Music degree from Berklee College of Music, the first such honor he has received from an American institution since Princeton awarded him one in 1970. “Thank you, Berklee College of Music, for bestowing on me this prestigious honor. What a pleasant surprise,” Dylan said in a statement. “Who knows what path my career might have taken if I’d been fortunate enough to learn from some of the great musicians who taught at Berklee. It’s something to think about.” Berklee honored the 84-year-old icon for his extraordinary influence on modern music and lifelong creative exploration, with President Jim Lucchese praising Dylan’s enduring evolution and pursuit of truth through sound and language. Although Dylan will not attend any events related to the honor, Berklee is hosting a concert on Wednesday evening (November 5) entitled, Watching the River Flow: A Roots Salute to Bob Dylan, featuring performances of his classic songs by students, faculty, and alumni.
