Alex Warren’s breakout hit, “Ordinary,” has just tied the 21-year-old record for the longest reign atop Billboard’s Pop Airplay chart. The ballad has held the No. 1 spot for 14 weeks, matching the rule of Ace of Base’s 1994 hit, “The Sign,” which topped the chart for 14 consecutive weeks from February through March. Since first reaching No. 1 in June, “Ordinary” has dominated mainstream radio and the Pop Airplay tally, with his chart rule briefly interrupted by Sabrina Carpenter’s one week run at No. 1 with her hit single, “Manchild,” back in September. “Ordinary” also led the all-genre Billboard Hot 100 for 10 weeks, while finishing at No. 1 on the Songs of the Summer chart, while simultaneously ruling the Billboard Global 200 for 10 weeks and Billboard Global Excl. U.S. for eight frames. Warren recently reflected on his tune’s mass popularity, stating that, “When you write a song, you want it to apply to as many people as possible.” (Billboard)
