Paul Simon underwent successful back surgery over the past week, after the 83-year-old music icon was forced to cancel two recent concerts due to “chronic and intense back pain.” Simon cancelled his June 27 and 28 shows at the Academy of Music in Philadelphia, and was hoping to restart his A Quiet Celebration Tour with the next scheduled show in Long Beach, California on Monday (July 7), but he needs an extra day for recovery from the procedure. In a statement shared on Instagram on Thursday (July 3), Simon’s team revealed that, “Thanks to a great team of doctors, the surgery went well, as expected. However, it has become clear he will need one additional day of rest and recuperation to ensure he is able to perform at the top of his ability in Long Beach.” All original tickets will be accepted for the rescheduled date, with refunds available for fans who can’t make the show. All upcoming dates on the tour will proceed as scheduled. (People)
