Elvis Presley‘s third act in the seventies L.A. music scene is captured in the upcoming box set, Sunset Boulevard, which is set for release on August 1. The five-disc collection features 89 rare recordings that showcase previously unreleased material from his 1970-1975 L.A. recording sessions, such as the just-shared early version of “Burning Love (Take Two).” The set includes new mixes prepared by recording engineer Matt Ross-Spang, and recordings from rehearsals for Presley’s Las Vegas residency, with the collection also set to be released in a double-LP highlights edition. The comprehensive collection also includes a book with rare photos, liner notes by historian Colin Escott, and an introduction by Jerry Schilling, who was one of Presley’s “Memphis Mafiosi” and famously accompanied the King to meet President Richard M. Nixon. (Rolling Stone)
