SZA‘s sophomore studio album, SOS, has made history by breaking Michael Jackson‘s record for the most total weeks at No. 1 in the 60-year history of Billboard’s Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums chart. The album’s 38th nonconsecutive week at the top spot surpasses the previous record set by Jackson’s Thriller in 1983-84. SOS has maintained a consistent presence in the weekly Top 10 for over two and a half years since its release, with an impressive total of 129 weeks on the chart. The album’s extended success can be attributed to the release of a deluxe LANA edition in 2024, which added more hit singles to the collection, and contributed to its steady streaming numbers. SOS has also had a lasting impact on other Billboard charts, capturing an astounding 112th week at No. 1 on Top R&B Albums, by far the longest overall leader on the 12-year-old tally. SOS is No. 2 on the all-genre Billboard 200, following a run of 12 non-consecutive weeks at No. 1 since debuting atop the chart in 2022. (Billboard)
