In a new interview with Rolling Stone, Jakob Nowell, son of Sublime founding vocalist Bradley Nowell, revealed that he is collaborating with original band members Eric Wilson and Bud Gaugh on a forthcoming Sublime album, marking the band’s first full-length release since 1996. Nowell disclosed that he recently spent a week in the studio working on the project with renowned producer John Feldmann and Blink-182 drummer Travis Barker, while drawing songwriting inspiration from his father’s archives. “We’re combing through and trying to distill down what makes a Sublime song a Sublime song,” Jakob explained. “It’s been this fun learning process to get to know my lost family member in a spiritual sense.” Nowell also provided an update on an authorized Sublime biopic in the works, which will feature Riverdale star KJ Apa as Bradley Nowell. Following their successful debut at Coachella 2024, Sublime with Jakob is set to perform at a series of festivals this summer, including Boston Calling, BottleRock Napa, Shaky Knees, and Sea.Hear.Now.
