Joey Molland, the guitarist and last surviving core member of the celebrated rock group Badfinger, has died at 77. According to the band’s official Facebook page, Molland passed away on Saturday (March 1), surrounded by his family. No official cause of death was given, though the musician had faced health issues including pneumonia in recent months. Molland joined Badfinger – one of the first acts signed to the Beatles’ Apple Records – in 1969, and contributed to their hits like “No Matter What” and “Without You,” which were later popularized by Harry Nilsson and Mariah Carey, and played on popular singles like “Day After Day,” “Baby Blue,” and John Lennon‘s “Jealous Guy.” After the band disbanded in 1974, Molland reunited with singer/bassist Tom Evans and continued to record music, eventually forming his own version of Badfinger. “Thank you, Joey…for keeping the band’s music alive for so long and for being a friend to us all,” the band wrote in tribute to their late bandmate.
