In a new interview with People, Brittney Spencer reflects on her remarkable journey from being a young country music fan singing in church in Baltimore to becoming a Grammy-winning artist featured on Beyoncé’s Cowboy Carter. The 36-year-old singer was one of four Black female vocalists that Beyoncé recruited to sing on “BLACKBIIRD” from the Best Country Album-winning Cowboy Carter, getting to perform the song live for the first time on Christmas day with Tanner Adell, Reyna Roberts and Tiera Kennedy for Netflix’s Beyoncé Bowl. “I learned a great deal being with [Beyoncé], being with her team and getting a little bit of an inside look into how things run in her world,” Spencer recalls. “Gosh, that was a really defining moment for me.” Spencer also credits The Chicks, Loretta Lynn, Maren Morris, Shania Twain, Kacey Musgraves, and Willie Nelson with shaping her musical tastes and singing career.
