In a new interview with the BBC, Paul McCartney spoke openly about the creative dangers of AI, and called on the British government to step in and protect artists. The Beatles legend specifically mentioned a controversial new copyright law that could potentially allow AI to use the work of creators, especially young artists. “You get young guys and girls coming up, and they write a beautiful song, and they don’t own it,” McCartney warned. “They don’t have anything to do with it, and anyone who wants can just rip it off.” In December, artists, publishers, and media companies formed the Creative Rights in AI Coalition, which wants to ensure that the current copyright protections remain in place in the U.K. “We’re the people, you’re the government. You’re supposed to protect us. That’s your job,” McCartney said. “So if you’re putting through a bill, make sure you protect the creative thinkers, the creative artists, or you’re not gonna have them.” (Rolling Stone)
