Iron Maiden singer Bruce Dickinson is a longtime fencer, even training in his younger years with the British Olympic team back in the 1980s. So it is no surprise that the heavy metal legend performed well in a fencing tournament in France over the weekend. The 66-year-old Dickinson placed 13th among 30 other participants in the prestigious veterans’ competition of the Circuit Européen 2025 tournament, which took place in Fâches-Thumesnil from January 18-19. Dickinson won his first match, but ultimately lost to Pascal Jolyot, a former Olympic Gold Medal-winning French fencer who won a total of three Olympic medals during his decorated career. “He’s not bad,” Dickinson joked in a video interview with the French newspaper, La Voix du Nord. “Rock star Bruce Dickinson, with 100 million albums sold with the heavy metal group, Iron Maiden, is also an international level fencer,” the paper wrote, praising the rock star’s respectable performance in “the largest European veterans foil tournament.” (People)
