At the end of December, SZA posted a since-deleted video on X where she opened up about her mental health struggles during the COVID pandemic, and how she reached her lowest point while living at her mom’s house during quarantine. “Covid was hard … my granny had just died … I was hella depressed. Not eating. Over working out,” SZA wrote. “Grateful to be in a much better mental space now. s/o to those days tho.” Someone responded to her vulnerable post by commenting, “before she got big,” which caused the Grammy-winning musician to clap back at the body-shamer. “Yall say weird s**t like this and wonder why I’m different and don’t feel comfortable w yall anymore,” she wrote. The 35-year-old R&B superstar – whose new release, SOS Deluxe: LANA, is the current No. 1 album in the country – said hurtful interactions like this with fans is the reason “I don’t go on live+ talk and don’t communicate w yall like that anymore.” (People)
