Netflix has acquired the biblical epic Mary, starring Anthony Hopkins as King Herod, and will release the film this year. Directed by D.J. Caruso (Eagle Eye, I Am Number Four), the story follows a shunned Mary and Joseph as they go on the run to save baby Jesus from King Herod’s murderous pursuit. The film also features Noa Cohen as Mary and Ido Tako as Joseph. “I’m thrilled that we are bringing ‘Mary’ to the world with Netflix, as there is no bigger and better outreach to inspire people globally,” producer Mary Aloe said in a statement. Pastor Joel Osteen will be involved in the movie’s marketing campaign. (Variety)
