Tom Girardi, the renowned attorney whose cases inspired the film Erin Brockovich, has been convicted by a Los Angeles jury for orchestrating a decade-long Ponzi scheme, diverting over $15 million from his legal clients. The 85-year-old, the estranged husband of Real Housewives star Erika Jayne, was found guilty of wire fraud charges and faces up to 20 years in prison per count. Despite having dementia, Girardi was deemed fit for trial earlier in January. The scams occurred from 2010-2020 and were featured in the 2021 Hulu documentary The Housewife & The Hustler. Girardi’s former CFO and his son-in-law were indicted alongside him on fraud charges. (Deadline)
