French pole vaulter Anthony Ammirati gained attention over the weekend for a viral video showing one of his failed pole vault attempts, and leading to speculation that his prominent “bulge” knocked down the bar. However, upon closer inspection, it was actually his knees that caused the bar to fall. Despite the attention, his unsuccessful attempts to reach the 5.70-meter mark, rather than the viral incident, are the real reason he won’t advance to the pole vault final at the Paris Olympics. The incident was similar to one at the 2016 Rio Olympics, when Japanese pole vaulter Hiroki Ogita also went viral due to a mishap involving his crotch. (People)
