HBO has greenlit a new live-action series called Lanterns, the first created by DC Studios under James Gunn and Peter Safran. The show will have eight episodes and revolves around DC Comics’ Green Lantern characters Hal Jordan and John Stewart. The story will center on the duo investigating a murder in the American heartland, as they utilize their superhuman powers to combat evil in the cosmos. Gunn and Safran said in a statement: “John Stewart and Hal Jordan are two of DC’s most compelling characters, and ‘Lanterns’ brings them to life in an original detective story that is a foundational part of the unified DCU we’re launching next summer with ‘Superman.’” (Variety)
