NBC has announced a three-hour live primetime special to celebrate the 50th anniversary of Saturday Night Live, set to air on Sunday, February 16th from 8-11 p.m. ET. The special will reportedly culminate what the network promises will be a “celebratory weekend” dedicated to the iconic sketch show created by Lorne Michaels. While further details have not yet been revealed, the show is currently wrapping up its 49th season, with Jake Gyllenhaal lined up to host the season finale on May 18th. Despite plans for the anniversary show, the future of SNL beyond the 50th celebration remains uncertain, as rumors about Micheals’ possible retirement continue to loom.
