The Fall Guy, starring Ryan Gosling and Emily Blunt, kicked off summer movie season by falling short of expectations, earning $28.5 million in its debut. With a production cost of $140 million, it will need a lot of staying power to turn a profit. The Star Wars: The Phantom Menace re-release surprised by coming in second place at the box office this weekend with $8.1 million. Last week’s top film, Challengers, dropped to third with $7.65 million. The low-budget horror film Tarot opened in fourth place with $6.5 million, while Godzilla x Kong: A New Empire rounded out the top five at $4.5 million — and $530 million globally, now the second highest-grossing movie of the year.
