Marcus Mumford's upcoming solo album reveals a lot more than just new music. The opening track, called “Cannibal,” shares that Mumford was sexually abused as a child. He was six years old at the time, but his mother didn't learn about the traumatic experience until she heard the song.
Mumford told GQ, “I hadn’t told anyone about it for 30 years . . . Once we get through the trauma of that moment for her, as a mother, hearing that and her wanting to protect and help and all that stuff, it’s objectively f**king hilarious (how she found out).”
Mumford explained that his abuser was neither a family member nor in the church.
