At long last Rolling Stones fans will be able to listen to the band's legendary and infamous 1977 El Mocambo club show without shelling out big bucks for bootlegs or downloading dubious recordings offline. On May 13th, the band will finally release release Live At The El Mocambo as a two-CD, quadruple-LP, and digital set.
The collection features the entire March 4th, 1977 club show — with a trio of tunes from the March 5th gig not performed the previous night. Although four selections from the famed El Mocambo gigs found their way onto that year's double concert album, Love You Live, the tapes of the show — in varying quality — have made the rounds on the underground for decades
Guitarist Ron Wood explained that ultimately his favorite type of Stones shows are their club gigs: “The clubs, obviously, everybody's hot — it's rocking, it's steaming, and, y'know, it's rock n' roll, and anything goes. But you have to tighten up your act for the scrutiny of the people more in an arena, and even in stadiums, because you're the object of close scrutiny–whereas in the club, people can just let their hair down and just go with it.”
