Taylor Swift is facing a lawsuit from songwriters who claim the singer copied their lyrics in her 2014 single “Shake It Off.”
Songwriters Sean Hall and Nathan Butler, who wrote 3LW’s 2001 hit “Playas Gon’ Play,” claim that Swift swiped the line, “the players gonna play, play, play, play, play, and the haters gonna hate, hate, hate, hate, hate’ from the track which includes the phrases, “players, they gonna play, and haters, they gonna hate.”
Reuters reports that U.S. District Judge Michael W. Fitzgerald ruled Thursday (Dec. 9th) that there were “some noticeable differences” between the songs but also “enough objective similarities” that the case should go to a jury.
