Happy Birthday to Fleetwood Mac songwriter-keyboardist Christine McVie, who turns 78 today (July 12th)!!! In 2018 and 2019, Fleetwood Mac — with Heartbreakers guitarist/songwriter/producer Mike Campbell stepping in to cover lead guitar duties and Crowded House frontman Neil Finn supplying rhythm guitar and vocals — played an 88-date tour taking in shows in North America, Europe, and Oceania.
Last February, only a week after implying that Fleetwood Mac would never tour again, Christine McVie offered up a major back-pedaling to her remarks. McVie had been asked by RetroPopagazine.com if the band was planning to hit the road in the foreseeable future, and revealed, “If we do, it would be without John (McVie) and without Stevie (Nicks), I think. I think I’m getting a bit too old for it now — especially having had a year off. I don’t know if I could get myself back into it again. I know Mick (Fleetwood) would do it in a lightning strike, but I couldn’t possibly say. . . We’re certainly not touring this year either.”
McVie walked back her comments to Rolling Stone explaining, “First and foremost, I’m thrilled to see that everyone still cares so much about Fleetwood Mac, how humbling to know what a lasting impact this band has had. To clarify my recent comments, I was specifically asked if Fleetwood Mac would tour again. I gave a cheeky answer indicating that the band might be ‘done with that' or 'you just never know.' I always intended to convey that, particularly after the last year, we just don’t know what the future holds.”
