Coming on Friday, (February 12th) is Rod Stewart's new Valentine's Day digital release, titled, Cupid. The 16-track love-themed compilation mixes some of Rod's best-known ballads with five rarities that have never been available digitally until now. In celebration of the release, a new Valentine's Day-themed Instagram filter with audio from the song “Cupid” will make its debut, along with a new lyric video.
Cupid includes such standards as “Tonight's The Night (Gonna Be Alright),” “The First Cut Is The Deepest,” and “You're In My Heart (The Final Acclaim)” — along with the collection's title song, “Cupid,” which was a bonus track taken from the expanded edition of 2001's Human.
Among the rarities on the set are the fan favorite B-sides: “Love In The Right Hands,” which accompanied the unplugged version of “Reason To Believe” in 1993, and “One Night,” which was the flip side to “Have I Told You Lately.”
Rod Stewart said in the album's press release: “I've always been a hopeless romantic, and this list is perfect for that candlelit date night. No need to be a DJ, just press play and focus on your lover.”
Although Rod Stewart's 2018 single “Didn't I” marked his first original composition to crack the Top 10 on Billboard's Adult Contemporary charts since 1999, he admitted to us that getting substantial radio airplay for new material borders on the impossible: “You're running up against, y'know, the airplay situation. They don't seem to want to play anybody that's over 35 anymore, y'know, and even over 30. I'm not complaining. Y'know, I think we've had a really good run at it — the people that came along in the early-'70s and are still here, like Elton (John) and myself — and I don't think anybody can complain if they're playing other people on the radio.”
The tracklisting to Rod Stewart's Cupid is:
“Have I Told You Lately”
“Faith Of The Heart”
“Tonight’s The Night (Gonna Be Alright)”
“Careless With Our Love”
“For The First Time”
“You’re In My Heart (The Final Acclaim)”
“Kiss Her For Me”
“The First Cut Is The Deepest”
“Love In The Right Hands”
“Run Back To Your Arms”
