Lawyer Sends Out Petition To End Britney Spears’ Conservatorship

In light of the recent New York Times documentary Framing Britney Spears, attorney Lisa MacCarley has sent a letter to more than 100 lawyers in Los Angeles urging them to sign a petition calling for the termination of Spears’ conservatorship.

MacCarley, an expert in conservatorships and probate court, writes that the program “gave a subtle but powerful glimpse into the unconstitutional manner in which Ms. Spears’ conservatorship originally devolved.”

According to screenshots of the letter that were posted to Twitter, the attorney called on recipients to contact the Los Angeles County probate department and request that Judge Brenda Penny terminate the conservatorship “or at least replace the court-appointed attorney with someone who can file a Writ of Habeas Corpus.”

She concluded by saying, “We would be complicit in the remarkable violation of Ms. Spears’ constitutional rights if we watch and do nothing. More scrutiny and investigation is coming. It is 2021 and ‘justice is back in vogue.'”

Also in the wake of the documentary, Spears’s boyfriend Sam Asghari offered some words of support for his partner, telling People, “I am thankful for all of the love and support she is receiving from her fans all over the world, and I am looking forward to a normal, amazing future together.”
