Halsey is speaking out in response to Kanye West’s Monday night Twitter rant in which he said that his wife Kim Kardashian is trying to lock him up.
Halsey is urging people to not make jokes about Kanye’s tweets because it’s clear he’s going through some issues right now. “No jokes right now. I have dedicated my career to offering education and insight about bipolar disorder and I’m so disturbed by what I’m seeing. Personal opinions about someone aside, a manic episode isnt a joke. If you can’t offer understanding or sympathy, offer your silence,” Halsey said.
Halsey reminded her fans that there are more productive ways to talk about mental health in the public eye “without contributing to stigma” faced by those with mental illness “all for a couple of laughs.”
“If you wanna think someone is an as*hole, go ahead,” she wrote. “Lots of people with mental illnesses are great. Lots of them are as*holes. Because they are people. With nuanced personalities. But making jokes specifically targeted towards bipolar hurts more than the 1 person ur angry with. … Sincerely, Human Being with a Decade Long Bipolar Diagnosis.”
Halsey had previously opened up about her own mental health battles, revealing she has ‘‘been committed” to a mental health facility twice since finding fame.
In a series of since-deleted posts, West publicly dissed his wife, and mother-in-law, Kris Jenner, who he claimed tried to get him “locked up” after his emotional campaign rally in South Carolina one day earlier.
In a post last night, Kanye suggested that he might delay his presidential run. “#2020VISION or maybe ‘24,” West wrote on Twitter. Included in the tweet was a photo of an orange piece of paper with what appeared to be a tracklist for his upcoming album. “I guess all black people supposed to vote on Biden?” he added. “Y’all want me to run on nah???”
West revealed on Monday night that he plans to release a new album later this week in honor of his mother, who died in 2007. “DONDA coming this Friday,” he wrote in a tweet, including a photo of the album’s tracklist. On Tuesday he tweeted that in addition to the album, he would be releasing a movie and was changing the title to DONDA WITH CHILD.
