Out now is Live Series: Songs Of Summer, Bruce Springsteen's sixth “greatest hits” collection from his officially sanctioned archival live bootleg series. The new 14-track compilation, features the E Street Band over the years tackling such Springsteen summer standards and rarities as “Rosalita (Come Out Tonight),” “Racing In The Street,” “Spirit In The Night,” “It's A Hard To Be A Saint In The City,” “Frankie,” “Seaside Bar Song,” “The Fever,” “Jungleland,” and more.
The new Songs Of Summer follows the recent Live Series sets Songs Under Cover, Songs Of The Road, Songs Of Friendship, Songs Of Hope, Songs Of Love, and Songs From Around The World. The collections are the joint product of the Legacy imprint of Springsteen's Sony label and Nugs.net, which produces and distributes his monthly archival sets.
Steve Van Zandt explained why the E Street Band is able to serve Bruce Springsteen's music in a way no other group of musicians could: “He picked guys that could handle a wide variety of things and could basically follow orders. We had a really fast, 'know, ability to learn. Every one of us — there was a lot of spontaneity goin' on in the show. A lot. We, we gotta move like one thing, one entity, y'know, no matter what move he makes. Y'know, he never does a song the same way twice.”
