Paul Simon and Wynton Marsalis are among the musicians participating in the online Jazz at Lincoln Center’s 2020 gala concert, “Worldwide Concert For Our Culture.” Simon posted a video announcement of the show, which Rolling Stone reported would take place on Wednesday, April 15th at 7:30 p.m. EDT on various digital platforms.
Simon announced the event, stating, “Please join me, Wynton Marsalis and the Jazz At the Lincoln Center Orchestra on April 15th, when we’ll be offering performances and commentary from artists all around the world, uniting and uplifting through music.”
Paul Simon explained that ultimately he's hopeful that the people inhabiting Earth will rise to the occasion to nurture and save the planet: “For the future of the planet and my children, I hope that we could, as a species, reach our potential for enlightened thinking; which you see everywhere, and of course that exists with the brutal part of our nature, and the greedy and the selfish part of our nature. So, I mean, if I were not a member of this species, I would not be a big fan of this species — but I am, so that's where I hope we go.”
