Post Malone Sued By Songwriter Who Claims He Co-Wrote ‘Circles’

Post Malone is being sued by a songwriter who claims he never received proper credit or payment for co-writing Post’s hit, “Circles.”

Tyler Armes says he and Post got together to write a song in August 2018. That track allegedly became “Circles,” but Tyler claims it was released without his name on it.

Tyler says in the court docs that he co-wrote the chords and bass line for the song, and also had input on other parts, such as the guitar melody. Armes has sued Austin Post, aka Post Malone, producer Frank Dukes and Universal Music Group for what he deems a fair cut of past and future royalties from the song.

Post filed a countersuit against Armes, disputing Armes’ claims. The singer said he was forced to file the suit because Armes “threatened to take action against Post Malone’s record label,” which would interfere with his business dealings.

Post’s attorney Christine Lepera argues that while Armes was present at the recording session, he didn’t write any of the music or lyrics that were used in the song – and he wasn’t present for any of the subsequent sessions that led to its creation.
