- James Taylor and his wife Kim have donated $1 million to Massachusetts General Hospital to help with its fight against the Coronavirus. The couple's donation will aid the MGH President’s Emergency Response Fund, which was established after the Boston Marathon bombings, and is now supporting the development of in-house testing for the virus.
- Taylor said in a statement, “There is no question that it’s a point of pride for New Englanders to claim the MGH as their hospital — our hospital — and this is especially true today with the threat coming from a new and insidious virus. Kim and I want to be part of this fight. We have been so inspired by the courage and sacrifice of the health care heroes in the trenches who are working so hard to protect us all.” (BostonHerald.com)
- Guitarist Larry Campbell, best known for his years playing with Bob Dylan and Levon Helm, has been laid low by the Coronavirus. His wife and musical partner Teresa Williams is in Manhattan while Campbell is ill, and quarantined in upstate New York.
- On March 24th she addressed friends and fans on Facebook, saying, “Larry tested positive for COVID-19 yesterday. If you didn’t know anybody who has it now you do. He’s really too sick for him to receive phone calls and texts there at the house so if you could just kinda hold those until he’s healthy. . . take all the precautions the CDC is recommending. This is no picnic. He’s sicker than he’s ever been in his life.” (Jambands.com)
- Sammy Hagar‘s AXS TV show, Rock & Roll Road Trip, kicks off its fifth season on April 19th at 8:30 pm ET. The season premiere features the “Red Rocker” in Las Vegas where he was filmed hanging with Def Leppard during their last “Sin City” run, along with a visit with Shaquille O’Neal. Other shows this season include Hagar with Joe Walsh, Brian May, his Van Halen replacement — Extreme frontman Gary Cherone, Matchbox Twenty‘s Rob Thomas, and Ted Nugent. (Press release)
- The Library of Congress’ 2020 inductees into the National Recording Registry, have been rolled out with a selection of key rock, pop, Broadway, and rap classics being saluted. Among the new albums now in the Registry are Cheap Trick's 1978 At Budokan, Tina Turner's 1984 Grammy-winning Private Dancer, Selena‘s 1990 album Ven Conmigo, the 1971 original Broadway cast recording of Fiddler On The Roof, and Dr. Dre's 1992 debut, The Chronic.
