Billy Joel has postponed his upcoming April 18th concert at Charlotte, North Carolina's Bank Of America Stadium for just short of a full calendar year. BillyJoel.com announced the stadium show has now been pushed back until April 17th, 2021, with the tickets purchased for the 2020 concert being honored on the rescheduled date.
Earlier this week, the “Piano Man” posted a statement announcing that due to the Coronavirus, his next three gigs as part of his ongoing Madison Square Garden residency have been postponed until the fall.
Billy Joel told us that with such a huge back catalogue of songs, it's tough to find a balance in pleasing himself and longtime fans with each night's setlist: “You're always trying to strike a balance between what an audience would like to hear, what we wanna play, and what balances out to make a good show — and it's kind of hard to strike a balance sometimes. I would not be happy just playing the hits. And I know people are walking out sometimes going, 'Well, why didn't he play 'Uptown Girl,' why didn't he play 'A Matter Of Trust,' why didn't he play 'She's Got A Way,' why didn't he play 'Tell Her About It'' — but we don't always wanna do those. I feel the need to sometimes play some of the things that people may not know, just to remind myself that I've written more than Top 40 hits. And the band needs to be challenged from time to time.”
