Sting is hoofing it on stage every night in the touring review of his ill-fated Broadway musical, The Last Ship. Sting and the cast are now in the end of their San Francisco run before moving on later this month to Washington, D.C. Sting stars as shipyard foreman, “Jackie White,” and will perform the role at every performance.
Sting told us that playing a role so far away from his legendary rock star persona is in many ways a liberation for him: “It's a different discipline. I'm not playing myself. I mean, there are aspects of me in the songs, but, y'know, I'm playing another character. That's challenging, but also very freeing. Y'know, I don't have to be me. In fact, one of the great things about writing this musical is that I don't have to be in my own head. And getting into someone else's head it's an act of empathy. You enter someone else's life and you see the world through their point of view.”
