After releasing the lyric video for “The Man,” Taylor Swift is ready to release the full video treatment.
She posted a teaser image to Twitter, featuring colorful hands reaching out into a hallway.
Taylor told fans: “There are 19 hands in the hallway…but only 2 days until The Man Music Video.” Her comment is an acknowledgement of the fact that, prior to her album Lover’s release, fans analyzed every image Taylor posted on social media, looking for clues in the number of objects in the photos, such as holes in a fence and palm trees.
Many fans have guessed that the Easter egg means that there will be 19 cameos in the video. One person took it a step further, remembering that Swift “mentioned 18 new acts” in her Woman of the Decade speech at the Billboard Women in Music event last year. “(Billboard) + Taylor … that’s 19 WOMAN = 19 HANDS,” she concluded.
However, many reacted because the place appeared familiar. Many online users felt that the hallway appeared similar to the one in Kanye West and Kim Kardashian’s house.
Previously, Swift released a stripped-back live performance of the song filmed in Paris. The acoustic version was filmed during her performance at the 2019 City of Lover concert in September.
Swift’s video comes after she spoke to Billboard about the feminist track. “It was a song that I wrote from my personal experience, but also from a general experience that I’ve heard from women in all parts of our industry,” Swift shared. “I think that the more we can talk about it in a song like that, the better off we’ll be in a place to call it out when it’s happening.”
“So many of these things are ingrained in even women, these perceptions, and it’s really about re-training your own brain to be less critical of women when we are not criticizing men for the same things.”
