The Royal Mint has announced a new commemorative coin in honor of Queen — making the legendary band the first group to feature on a British coin. The announcement, which was posted on BrianMay.com, reads in part, “The coin pays tribute to all four members of Queen, depicting their different instruments and contributions to the group. The commemorative coin, which marks the first of The Royal Mint’s 'Music Legends' collection, is available in Gold Proof, Silver Proof, and Brilliant Uncirculated. The Brilliant Uncirculated coin will also be available in limited numbers in three exclusive packs which includes a poster and will only be available to purchase from The Royal Mint.”
Brian May said, “This is a big 'Who could have imagined it?' moment for us. When we began as Queen, even the first rung of the ladder to recognition seemed remote and unreachable. To have our band recognized and our music celebrated in this way is very touching — a real honor.”
Roger Taylor added: “”Marvelous, all this fuss over our band. I feel entirely spent.”
